Missing

I watched from the window
while you spoke your mind,
forgetting how much I enjoyed
playground noise so many years ago.

I could feel the remnants of the touch
of small hands tugging, wanting, needing me
to solve a problem that was too big for them.

For me the sun shone every day
in their little faces. Sometimes
just talking about it brings a feeling of joy.
To see them grow before your eyes,
in knowledge and height...

I know what I have to do...

My future is there, in the remnants of my past.

I love the last line Maureen, but don't spend too much time in the past - it's a labyrinth and you could be lost.

Here in the midst of my lonely abyss, a single joy I find...your presence in my mind.  Unknown

Relate well to this poignant write.  Spent awhile driving school buses as a sideline and really miss the kids - especially the younger ones.  Have thought often of doing it again but can't coordiante the hours with my full time occupation.

Alas...memories, then, are all the more important.

enjoyed...

This is quite a touching write, Maureen.
I can certainly relate, since I spent many
years in education, and I often miss it as well.
A beautifully penned piece, my friend.

Maureen, though I have never taught school, I taught Sunday School for many years. I have seen many of the little ones I taught  grow up into fine young men and women. It feels good to know I may have had a small part in helping them. I don't teach anymore because of health reasons, and I miss it a lot sometimes.
Hugs to you,
Ethel

Maureen - I am getting something entirely different out of this - which is typical for me geez . . .

BUT seems to me you are missing more than the "noises" in the playground . . .   loved this  xxoo
