A quick note about this piece, it is written (as best I could) in a 16th century Scottish dialect. The main differences are in the spellings. Use your imagination and I'm sure you'll figure most of it out. Any questions? just ask.

For Kelley

Travel I to Edinburgh?
I will to sik my dear.
For she hes gone so far away
And left me with the feir
That I sall never look into
Those eyes that ne’er cast down,
Nor never taste those honey lips
That never wear a frown.

For tis my dreid, without remeid
That she sall ne’er return.
And evermoir with great dolour
My faithfull hairt will burn.

Come ye haim from Edinburgh
And ne’er depairt agane?
I lyve to sie they bricht, sueit face.
Let not my lyfe be vain.
For this I say on panis of deid:
Thou art my sollesing.
I offer you my hairt, my love
And all my comforting.

And to they gain, I sall not fain
To love you ever true;
Quyt then to me they constancie.
I love no one bot you.

The noblest battles are always fought in vain

I enjoyed this read and appreciated your stretching your poetic wings into the realm of archaic English.

Two of my great (several greats!) grandfathers (the daughter of one married the son of the other), were very close friends of Robbie Burns and were his pall bearers when he died. Their descendants (my forebears) were responsible for the erection of a statue of Robbie Burns in Edinburgh. With that as part of my personal history,  your poem is even that more appealing to me.
Thanks!

BTW, I like your photo! You look like a thespian!

Love & Light,
