Some say a heart is meant to love,
that I can't debate.
It's the actual composition
I've come to contemplate.
Is it made from granite, stone,
or maybe even slate?
Perhaps a precious jewel
set in armor plate.
After long consideration
I've come to see at last,
With the ease it can be broken,
It must be made of glass.

...and when the glass is thoroughly warm,
made pliable, some would say...
it eases into the folds of love
becoming a heart of crystal gaze...

*sigh* though made of glass it can be melted down and a new and better glass made of all the pieces...stronger and of more beauty than the one before. Wonderful writing...

I am so glad that Karilea bumped this back to the top. Sometimes I get way behind in my reading and can't seem to get caught up. I would certainly have hated to miss this one. You see, since I'm one of the "hopeless romantics" around PIP, I love all these poems concerning love. This one has a little different meaning, but it's still a very good poem. I'm going to enjoy reading your poetry.

(By the way, the broken glass can be mended, if someone cares enough about your heart to have the patience to help you......I know because it's happening with mine.)

I would like those cold hearts to take a gander at this treasure.  As someone whose heart was just shattered, you remind me how fragile the heart is.
