shut the blinds
behind the eyes
and take the children
of the night
pry their fingers
from the dust
clutching
their familiar plight.

White washed rocker
on the porch
hidden by the vine grown wild
boasting blooms of white midnight
and lies that they
will come home soon.

Fan yourself with the program
of Sunday serviced messages.
Add some ice and mint to tea
and tell yourself it's passages.

Fireflies have buzz and flash
boasting neon of the past--
tell yourself it's for the best--
thank the lord that you can rest--
and cream yourself "sweet honesty"
and sleep now, with a clear conscience.

Don't forget to latch the gate.
Christianty can wait.
Even need ingratiates.

Christianity can wait.

Oooh Karen, you write with such depth and honesty,
always digging deep...deeper still..with each write.
Fantastic piece of work here.

Yep.. I know so many people like this...
they'd rather bury their head in the sand or look the other way and say something too ugly for them to face is "gods will"
or if they cant fix it without sacrificing something of them selves they want to turn the other cheek.

Sometimes we just need to know we're understood and accepted and have that support with out being judged or written off.

Karen, your writing simply intrigues me. Wonderful. Chris

It seems like every neighborhood has one, and this one describes ours. I always give her a big smile tho, and a cheerful "How are ya?"

It seems to annoy the hell out of her.

Thanks for reading.

Just you wait until I come down and we go shopping at that market, I will give her a good reason to look the other way .

What a strong piece of writing Karen, so true, so true.  What people don't understand due to ignorance, or can't fix they either talk about behind your back, or ignore totally.  Until it happens to them, they don't realize that the person doesn't need to be understood or even helped unless they ask,but only given respect as any human being, right?  Sometimes they have no other path to take until a door opens, or an opportunity to escape or change arises.  We had a lady in our old neighbourhoold that used to shake her head openly at this poor woman who had a drunk for a husband.  Anyhow, she left him when she was ready, but until then, that horrible woman spread rumors, and did nothing but tell her how stupid she was.  Well she left, and amounted ot a very valuable member of this society.  I got this one right, right?
