The Collection

One by one they’ve each adored you
And gave to you their hearts
Joining the assembled victims
Assigned their separate parts.
More timid souls try to conceal
Emotions you have frayed,
But most have scars callously caused,
And charmingly displayed.
I’m baffled, for I never dreamed
That I would find myself
The new star of your collection,
Latest trophy on your shelf.

Unanswered

Maybe if I live forever
There will come a day
When these questions don't torment me.
Was there really any way
For me to earn the love I longed for?
Did you plan it in advance?
What was it that I did wrong?
Did I ever stand a chance?
Did you feel nothing for me?
Your responses all pretend?
Did you mean to leave me bereft,
Even take my closest friend?

Truer Than the False Tales

Mirror, mirror, on the wall
Love's the biggest cheat of all?
Prince Charming dumped me, watched me fall,
And rode back, laughing, to the ball.

circa 1983-1984

My sincere thanks to Ratleader for giving new life to these old chestnuts from the reject vaults of a much younger suthern. *S* His tweaking and clipping, editing and polishing (and wonderful addition! *S*) saved them from still another 20 years of gathering dust. *S* I’m most grateful.

suthern...sometimes it does one good to get out the old and dust it off, maybe I'll try it...these are good, honest pieces of your heart speaking.  Much enjoyed them.

Wonderful write! Much deserving of the dusting and being brought back out into the light!

It reminds me of the time when I was about to cut up one of my earlier watercolor paintings for palette strips to test and mix my paints on.
A friend of mine stopped me and said it was definitely a "framer". I framed it and sold it for a considerable amount of money at my next art exhibition! Sometimes others see things that we cannot! I am always open to suggestions!

Do you have any more poetic gems hidden away that you could share with us, Dear One?

Luvin' hugs,
Linda

Isn't it wonderful when one poet pushes another along?  THAT is camaraderie...and we're lucky Ed came along for this bit of push and shove!

Suthern, you've always had it...you just need to share it more often!

Looks brand new to me!
This was therapuetic in an odd sort of way.
I guess because you brought it back and
made me see things differently.

I've dug up some of my old stuff and wondered...why?
I guess because it sounded good at the time
and the fact that poetry is meant to console and take comfort in.

Great poem suthern lady~

Ratleader: The honor is mine... I thank you for finding them worthy of work! *S* And it was fun to see them through someone else's eyes. *S* Thank you! *S*

Ericc: I thank you very much! *S*

Martie: The only bad thing is... it would be so nice to look back and see growth... instead of seeing patterns I kept repeating. *G* I'm so glad you enjoyed... thank you! *S*

nakdthoughts: That's no cause for embarrassment... rather, a reason to celebrate a new talent. *S* Thank you! *S*

scorpio: I couldn't see them as anything but personal... Ratleader was kind enough to bring them a bit more universal appeal. *S* I'm so glad you liked! *S*

Marge: And let's not forget the scissors! LOL If you think I'm longwinded now, just imagine how I was then! LOL I remember my creative writing professor asking me if I ran on in conversations as badly as I did when writing. *G* (And ummmm... that's a yes. *G*) Thank you so for liking the result! *S*

M'Toe: I'm a bonafide packrat... and hate moving with a passion primarily because my accumulated books and paperwork would fill a small truck by themselves. LOL Thank you very much! *S*

JP: Thank you, sir... very much! *S*

Enchantress: I'll look forward to them... for you never disappoint. *S* Thank you very much! *S*

EA: I'm not sure they'd qualify as gems... but see my answer to M'toe... I've been writing since I was 7... and that was... ummmm... ummmm.... a while ago. LOL And you're so right... Every time I read the first one, I "saw" a great desire to kick my ex's rump... and was pretty much blinded to any other view. *G* Ratleader's focus was different... now I can enjoy it, too. *S* Thank you so much! *S*

Sunshine: I still can't believe I had the gall to ask him... not when the very word "critique" is usually enough to send me running for the hills. *G* But I'm glad I did! *G* Thank you very much! *S*

Blues: "This was therapuetic in an odd sort of way. I guess because you brought it back and made me see things differently." Lady, you couldn't have pleased me more. *S* That's why I asked for help... I know others find themselves in this same situation... but I couldn't quite make the leap from "poured out personal feelings" to poetry. To know this reached you is to know Ratleader's helping hand did the trick. *S* Thank you!!

Margherita: Renewed... I like that term. *S* Thank you very much! *S*

Dark Angel: I'm so glad you enjoyed... thank you! *S*

Sudhir: Thank you very much, kind sir! *S*

I dont see any dust balls
and...the date of these serve proof that you always had a gift of cadence and rhyme divine as well as expressing your self with heart string playing sincerety.
Me thinks these are "buried treasure"

ROFLMAO... They're old poems, Toe, but not THAT old. LOL For I'll admit I was born basically bald... but it's been blonde ever since. *G* And I've no idea what Ratleader looks like... but he did a great tweak and polish job... tightening them up without completely rewriting them. *S* Thank you so very much, dearest friend... without you, nothing I write would see the light of day. *S*

JM: They're there... I swear. LOL In fact, I'll blame this allergy attack on all the dust that got stirred. *G* I think the cadence is all to Ratleader's credit... but I'm sure glad you like the finished product. *S* Thank you! *S*

Guess you're right -- only a couple of folks around here do know what Ratleader looks like....

Not that my looks are anything to write a poem about...... Guess I should post a pic and see if it breaks down the site software....

And so Toe can see who's been messin'....

...hmmmm, maybe not.....

Thanks again for all your help... I really had fun... and your scalpel really worked wonders. *S* If you ever feel like working miracles again, let me know... I've got plenty of lumps of coal. *G*

He may have tightened them up, fabulous poet that he is, but the essence in these really hit home.
They are wonderful and a place I certainly have been. You captured the feelings well.

Enjoyed greatly,
Hugs, Pat
