Saluting with misty eyes

0 posted 2003-04-02 07:37 PM

You know, I've been thinking
About the way my life has gone
From the time I can remember until now
And it seems that the only thing I can remember
Was you standing there just a step behind
Occasionally taking the lead when I needed it
When I was scared and wouldn't do for me
You never left though I wouldn't have blamed
I put you through it all when I had no right
You were all I had to scream at at the time
I wasn't mad at you I was just mad at him
And you were the only one I could see there
He left me everytime things got rough
But you stuck it out through the pain
The once a year Daddy felt good at the time
Even though I was used to the Daddy at home
He'd say he loved me and then move away
You said you loved me then moved downstairs
When he came back again you got hurt once more
He said he was my Daddy and you were to leave
He would love me and you could not again
Then he started his story again
But I can't let you go away for good
When you never went away from me before
I let him go out of my life today
I told him he wasn't doing this to me again
You are the one I want from now till forever
Daddy ain't my Daddy no more.
                           .
                           .
This was written after my son and I had a very long talk this past weekend. (ok, ok... my step son, but after 10 years...) The words are completely his.

Imagine all the People living life in peace...

Oh my, this one brought a tear to my eyes.
What a story, and presented so tenderly.
Hugs to you, dad.

A good share...and a tribute to you...
and all of the step-parents who have
worn your shoes...and wore through
the child's resolve that they wouldn't
and couldn't chase you away...

Well done sir!

Ringo, you are a very good Daddy to your
son....in every way that counts. If not,
he wouldn't feel this way about you. Thank
you for sharing your heart with us.
Heart Hugs,
Ethel

Brad - know I know what you meant in that other post . . .  this is amazing - as always - and yes - a wonderful Father  regardless . . . a father doesnt necessarily mean biological - a Father is someone who cares . . . nice job xxoo

This is written with compassion.
I feel so blessed to have such a great daddy I know your son is feeling the same.

Always, Alyssa

This was so well said.  You've earned the right to call him your son.  Sounds like you've been his dad all along.  Wear it with pride.

I hope that my own sons will someday realize that my husband (their stepdad) loves them just as much as you love your son.
