I sit intent to write
of dust devils, diaspora;

of the circuitous breadcrumbed
trail we leave in guilt
and follow in hungry regret,

of sad epiphanies in
downward hikes to
darkened vales in
waning light,
paralleling altitudes in
descent from surmounted
noons, eastward and
beyond all vision but
hindsight,

of a skinny 13 yr. old,
a morning,
pummeled self-esteem,
bottle of perfume,

crimson flues of veins
betraying in geysers flushed
from gong banged heartbeats
the puerile vault of
hope through blush

and a birthday card for Susie

how a colt struggled to its
feet to knock on the door,

how the smiling goddess
answered,
how the puppy stole the smile
in its escape,

how the rescue went badly,
missed tackle, muddied shirt,

how this time devouring journey
swallowed the order of things
after the puppy scooted back,
whether first the door closed
or the laughter

and so I thought I'd write of
life's cruel trick of distinct
memory regarding embarrassments,

of how so often fallen
soldiers cry out,
not for god or country,
but for Mama,

or of the urban rumor
that federal prisoners,
by some cold law,
are handcuffed when buried,

I thought I'd write of
the grimace that is the
human face at rest,

or allegorize on the
13 ravaged goose eggs
I found on my walk,
oppressive opossums,
rapacious racoons,

or perhaps I'll write of love...........

Richard--"I thought I'd write of the grimace that is the human face at rest"...and you did!--and superbly at that.

You put the "P" in POET.

--"or perhaps I'll write of love"... oh, yes, please do! I would enjoy some more of your wondrous words of love as well!

Gawd, you are a phenomenal poet and an astute observer of life!

Love & Light,
Linda
