I've spent a thousand hours in bed,
Laid low by viruses and flus.
I've suffered aches in joints and head--
Discomfortwise, I've paid my dues.

When money woes attacked me,
They came at me by twos
Or threes, and no one backed me.
Financialwise, I've paid my dues.

In dealing with the other sex,
I've found falses among trues,
As though their aim was to perplex.
Womenwise, I've paid my dues.

Whatever time I have left here,
I think I should be free to use
As I see fit. Now is it clear,
My answer's no. I've paid my dues.

Now Dom - I'm liking this.  As children we're taught not to say "no"...and after much trial, and effort, we learn, at a given age, that we indeed must say No from time to time...

just please don't say "no" when I ask for more poetry from you, please...
