He Wore a Diaper

A minute Waltz in the pale moonlight -
Soft arrows guide my mateless steps
The light turns liquid this night,
Iguana's lair revealed to be my pool.

The malamute named for Titus of Rome
Sleepily raises his brow black and white,
A weight above us beats like the great dome,
Cats play in moon shadows and sunbeams -

I can hear his train and long to ride
But my courage hangs on a hair,
Without it all other virtues hide;
Drums beat to no avail - I am long gone.

Dandia on the beach with friends,
The clap of dancing sticks is louder,
Infinitely more so than all the rounds he spends;
Bespectacled but by God more powerful.

Hai Ram!

Well, not sure I understand all of this, but it's an interesting read. Perhaps a word or two from the sponsor (think author) would enlighten me?
I think I saw some dancing and cavorting on the beach....

can't say I understand it all. But it is nonetheless an amazing and descriptive write. I do believe I also see dancing on a beach. Ah yes, beautiful.

i will post an explanation later, hopefully after getting some more readers   .

---------------------------------------------------

s1: t. williams' night of the iguana - "nothing human disgusts me" swimming in liquid moonlight means making love.

s2: titus of rome was an aggressor, conquerer, imperialist, and mad. sound familiar? cat stevens

s3: "peace train" war protest songs vs. the war drums

s4: dance is cultural expression, festive, joyous, often full of friendship and harmony.

hai ram: the mahatma's last words.

I understand the Dandia dancing reference, with noisey sticks and all, but still haven't figured out who/why the diaper wearing reference.  Are you spoofing the dance itself...or current politics?
Please enlighten me.

I think I get it.... it's a longing for peace juxtaposed against the back drop of war. All the allusions you make contrast one against the other in all of your stanzas... Mahatma is Ghandi (hope I spelt him right) and his ultimate mission of peace (he's the one wearing the "diaper" and the glasses if I am not mistaken.
But I kept wanting to read " I am not there in place of "long gone" (it rhymes better) is there an allusion that I missed in that choice of words.  I am glad you cast some light on this poem... seems to make sense when you set the scene for us.

Thank you. A very thought inspiring write indeed.

Love, Light and Peace,

Sherry

Oh yes and it has my vote too.

Cherish the good memories of the past and look forward to the adventure called Tomorrow. But above all... be kind to yourself today.
