Mississippi, Iowa, (Summer)

The air drips molasses,
onto shabby chic gables, serene,
Screen doors sing softly,
Inviting sluggish neighborly contemplation,
Heads blanketed in humid, hump day toil,
turn towards glazed salvation,
A breath across bright water,
Each heart carried with laborious churning,
through lock and dam,
to backwater creeks,
where eagerly dipped toes, turn oysters,
and catfish sizzle,
Corn stalk pickets sleep,
upon the fallow,
And quilted winter beat haut couture,
adorns patriotic porches.

At midnight,
I saw the ghostly passing of a barge,
behind the brownstones edifice,
So languished naked upon my bed,
awaiting the cool of sleep.

Olias.

Welcome back to poetry land...
welcome to the heartland..
How you ended up in Iowa from the UK will make for quite a story Im sure
So good to read you again poet Olias...
superb imagery and scene painting here...
a word mural of the midwest
way cool

"and when we get to the pearly gates ...
we'll find what we called our sins were just mistakes."

Olias!  You're home!  And you've brought summer, in all of its finest form....I have missed you!

J.M.
Thanks for your kind words, yes I am now a married man living in Iowa and I must say married life agrees with me. Its a little different from England and the weather is much better. I will try to pop into the forums as often as I can, now that things are settling down. Thanks once again
Regards,
Olias.
