Rising early he greets the coming sun
as natures white blanket still covers ground
Young brave prepares for journey just begun
searching for his spirit…it must be found

To become chief…a test he must survive
ritual ofages toprove his worth
To lead his people forward he will strive
his destiny, since the day of his birth

Facing demons that dwell within his mind
he ask forefathers for strength he will need
As eagle soars above they are entwined
together on this journey they proceed

Over the mountains and across the plains
step by step searching, as eagle soars high
With ancestors blood coursing through his veins
he pushes onward searching land and sky

Day becomes night as moon gives rise too fear
spirits of elders visit from beyond
Leaving visions with him they disappear
into the fire started by young brave

In the valley of buffalo he sleeps
along side the river of no return
From out of the fire eagles spirit leaps
into his heart and soul it starts to burn

A new chief is born from out of the flame
ready to return with his spirit found
Chief Soaring Eagle is his spirit name
man and eagle are one… forever bound

Hey Paulie!!!

Indeed, a passing of the torch. I could follow this in your mind, and you did indeed relate the story as though through an eagle's eye.

I thought it quite lovely, and am ever impressed with you.

just one lil tiny thing tho? your use of "too"? should be "to"--just a mite distracting, so I thought I would mention it--hope ya still love me? (I am assuming that ya did and counting on your lovely grace to not dispute me... )

Hugs, eagle eye.

As one who has made this journey and returned with scars of it, I thank you for bringing back the good half of that memory to join the bad.

And for writing a pretty tasty poem!

Paul, I just loved this and felt like I was right there watching and listening and completely understanding what this man had to go through.

I love anything to do with our Native American brothers and sisters.

Thank you for writing and sharing this.

Hugs for peace.  Marti

This was a gifted visionary piece.  Have you considered writing a western short story or novel?  If not definitely think about it.

Paul,

Wonderful poem, turning two into one.
It is great to  be able to read such
imagery.  This is just too much;
enjoyed greatly. Being part Native
American myself, the spiritually here,
touching.

Hugs to you, Pat
