An Acre of land

I rid my small acre of stone and of vine
And fashioned a fence marking off what is mine
A granite wall circling my dream and my hope
Deep furrows defining the contour and slope

My hands became calloused from long days of toil
My fingerprints russet with tinges of soil
For I’d planted each seed with the love of the hand
And the gift God bestowed of an acre of land

I watched the green rise from the hull of a seed
And plucked every sign of an unwanted weed
I nourished each shoot, then stood back from the field
As to not cast a shadow on fruits it would yield

My season has passed, and now I am amazed
At the bountiful blessings on which I have gazed
It’s a view of delight from the hill where I stand
Where the wildflowers grow on my acre of land

I have raised a fine crop and now I have retrieved
The harvest I reaped from the tiniest seed
I have love that abounds within walls of my own
Each one with an acre of vine and of stone

A field to be plowed up and nurtured by hand
A life to be lived on an acre of land

Elizabeth, you are truly an artist and your canvas is the imagination of those who are blessed enough to read your words. Thank you so very much.

Liz, a beautiful poem from both sides of
the thoughts you helped the reader to
have. I love your poetry. All of it makes
me think and that's a good thing. You do
have a wonderful way with words, friend.

Heart Hugs,
Ethel

Thank you, friends, for your warm remarks.
There is a meadow from my childhood which is the subject of so many poems. I think Nan has seen it. A beautiful sloping meadow surrounded by woods.
Thank you, each and every one
Liz

There is just something about working in the dirt--getting down there and pulling the rocks and hitting the old roots with the pick axe (smile, yep, I've done it)

but it's really satisfying.

Now if I can only take your metaphor to heart and work that one myself, maybe I'll be alright, huh?

Love ya for this'n, and so many others I've lost count. You are my sure-bet-read.

A satisfying and enjoyable read--on several levels...

Warm springtime hugs,
