I am just numb,
not dumb.
But if I should appear
to walk the roadways
with my head hung low,
looking as if my heart
had just been kicked into the dirt,
perhaps it's because it was?
...and my feet just haven't
yet come to a full stop
even though only the shell of me
follows the pathway faithfully,
step-by-step, in

Denial.

It sits upon my shoulder
like those 50 pound bags of barley
I used to carry into the pig yard,
climbing over the hurdles
my sister called fences,
jumping through the hoops
of daily existence,
sunrise to sunset,
oblivious of the clock hands
that pushed themselves forever forward
whether I was ready to move or not,
from

Denial.

It weighs me down,
forces me to gravitate
to another realm
when I'm only wanting to hold onto
the terra firma a bit longer,
wondering why the ground trembles
with each step,
no matter how carefully I place my feet,
no matter the beat
of

Denial.

that enables me
to refuse to see the reality.
Refusal to accept as truth
...you were just
a passionate dream,
a poetic fantasy
painted in blue.
And I have been lost in

Denial

and only
Vincent knew.

More Van Gogh, Kacy?

Stippled.

He knows many secrets, is there with a compassionate ear, his lips are sealed, yet he says so much.

Kacy, for some reason these lyrics come to mind from a rather famous alternative band by the name of Nirvana:

---------------------------------------
With the lights out it's less dangerous
Here we are now
Entertain us
I feel stupid and contagious
Here we are now
Entertain us
A mulatto
An albino
A mosquito
My Libido
Yeah, a denial
A denial
A denial...
----------------

...for what it's worth...  (But I enjoyed this write and can relate to the emotions...)

Yes, I've heard that song. Thanks for sharing it.

Sandra, I know by your writes that you do. Sorry for the emotional reminder. But maybe it's a little bit cathartic?

Ed, thanking you, always, for listening to this heartbeat

Karilea, thank you for that reply! This one came straight from my muse, free flow style.

Vandana, hello, and thanks.

Sue, I'm sorry if this rings a bell, but we can find much healing by letting these things go, and this poem helped me let go (at least a little bit) or should I say let gogh?

Albert, thanks for taking a moment to read and reply!

Regardless the circumstances, you have produced a wonderful piece of poetry, and in that I find joy. Your muse lies within yourself
it's called talent
Very well written

Both you and your muse did a fantastic job ....
if I was to guess, as a child you enjoyed finger painting ...
      masterpiece, one after another ...

                 ... no denying!!

Craig, smiling here at that reply. Yes, and the chalkboard was always covered too!

one of your best writes...i expected this to be about the war and was getting progressively worried the more i read and was kinda relieved to find out this isn't...at least, letting go of a past love is within our control?

Thanks kaile. Not to worry, only partly relating to my own experiences, mostly it's just a general write about letting go.

I do have a relative in Iraq right now though, and I am concerned for his safety.

Hola Kacy,

When we can no longer deny the "undeniable" denial, it is a great moment of truth and relief, even if it is unpleasant.

Woman, thank you for removing the cobwebs in my mind!   I NEEDED THIS!!
