Listening to every heart

Needling Thoughts

Silence surrounds the seamstress
As she seams opening passages
Then steams the seams open
And carves a curve
In linen, wool or silk
Fingers dipping in fabric like
A cat lapping warm milk

Then to relax she lays
Her silk-soft fabric aside
Takes up her needlepoint
And her thoughts flash
As the yarn whips and rides
In and out, in fevered dash
Till embroidered lays
A silken sash

In candlelight, all pretties done
She picks up socks to darn
In and out the needle flies
As grandpa spins a yarn
But in her world, her
Silent world, her fingers
Used to the knit and purl
Around her silent, awesome thoughts
Her threading threads around in whirls

She is already in tomorrow
Her thoughts bypassing
Yesterday’s sorrows
Her thoughts fly south
Then north again
Wondering if she’ll see him
~ and where
~ and when

Sweethearts’ Day will be here soon
And on golden beam of moon
She’ll cast a lone lover’s wish
Among the breezing leaves that swish
A tear falls down porcelain cheek
She stitches at a heart in pink
On a pillow to catch the tear
For she cannot lay aside her fear

And with each stitch
She says a prayer
In hopes her words
Are not threadbare
“God, save the souls
That give their all
They’ve gone to war
They’ve answered the call
Now bring them home
Safe, and sound,”
And in her stitch
Her words are bound

For in many ways will lay one’s poetry
By written word, or
1863 tapestries.

You weave your words with threads of lace and spun gold.
Yes...this is lovely and so perfect for "now"

"and when we get to the pearly gates ...
we'll find what we called our sins were just mistakes."

You are the seamstress. You take words and experiences that might lie like fallow yarn in another hand, and turn them into something beautiful and worthy.

And when she wrote
her words did smite
and having smitten
did leave you smote.......
You are simply awesome. I consider myself truly blessed to have experienced reading (and loving) this work.

I liked the contrast between the quiet sewing and the anxious thoughts in the seamstress' mind...beautifully done, Karilea

believe in what your heart feels...

Even if the poem was mediocre, these lines would shine. *S* But in this wonderful tapestry you've woven so many shining lines... the entire poem glows into one's heart. *S* Excellent work, Sunshine! *S*

Karilea,  stunning! this has the texture an antique photo and is soft as silk, weighted down like lead and absorbs like mercury...why no hanky alert?
