Awoke to horror blaring of the capture of souls
And in the conscious heartbeat of a moment
That terror of these faceless images flashed my heart
Left to tears of mothers, brothers, sisters and loves

And in that heartbeat diplomacy mattered not
Nor did the reasons, none right…none wrong
Only historical remembering, and the why of Geneva
Left to tears of mothers, brothers, sisters and loves

Without the thoughts of spring, or passion, or joy
Only human…the savage and unbridled terror of war
What can be done to salvage what destiny defies?
Left to tears of mothers, brothers, sisters and loves

And so, I called to my sons, all prime and yet safe
Aware of their time, just to speak what they knew
This courage, this hope and this warmest saving embrace
Left to tears of mothers, brothers, sisters and loves

Each write, part remembered for those that cannot
Each prayer, said the fold of wings for protection
Each poem, read the face of the future touched whole
Left to tears of mothers, brothers, sisters and loves
