Too old for an night light
Good ol' Teddy's cast aside
And the only safety blanket
Is the one you keep inside

Too old to cry for Mama
When things go bump in the night
Too old to harbour a fear of the dark
To sleep clutching a flashlight

You don't know what strength is
And still you have to act strong
You have to pretend you're in control
When you don't know what's going on

I admire that you can do that
Smile when you'd rather cry
Be brave when inside you're shaking
Keep living when you'd rather die

But still I can't understand
The decision you made- why?
I suppose you have your reasons
Ones that are far beyond I

But all I can say is I'm glad you believe
That what you're doing is right
Because we should all have something
To comfort us in the night

((Written for...my parents? [Who won't let me put by poem in the Reflections book because they think it's a scam!] President Bush? Some authority figure whose decision I don't agree with. My first poem in months, the first I've posted under this ID. [Writer's Block.] Anyhow...yeah. ))

Every heart has hidden treasures...a secret wish, a silent dream, and a cherished love. [Unknown]

A thoughtful read...  made me think of the soldiers out there...  (at least you have it "published" here, right...?)

Hi Stephanie

So let me get this straight, I'm not supposed to have a night light or a teddy bear now? Nobody told me. I'm not giving up my teddy for anyone. Maybe the night light, no that won't work, I'm afraid of the dark. Okay, I won't call Mom when things go bump in the night, but I'm keeping teddy and the night light.

Your poem is very appropriate for the time, and I just love it. Our soldiers need our prayers, that is for sure.

*grin* Despite all the difficulty I had expressing myself to you, I hope you know I like it. Very much. You have expanded my mind. Sick, now I sound like a bad Matrix wannabe... Um... anyway, I loved it.

I wasn't laughing at you. I was laughing at my horrible explanation. I'm so tired I can't even think in circles... they're loops and squiggles!
