"Substance versus Style"
Homeschooling lesson for March 22, 2003

Substance…
    essence…
        meaning…
             life…
                 matter…
                      theme…
                         bombs…
Style…
    form…
        motif…
             preference…
                   kind…
                      shock …
                          awe…

Your assignment today:

(1) Define and understand ways in which the above words interact.
   (one example: bombs = substance abuse)

(2) Explain in your own words if/how these concepts are dichotomous:

           WAR… versus… DIALOGUE

           MORE WAR…versus… PEACE

(3) Finish these word equations:

           WAR+ MORE WAR=

           DIALOGUE +NEGOTIATION=

Your assignment is due by April 1, 2003.
   (this is no joke)

I homeschool my daughter, and everyday brings a new lesson.

(PS. You can turn your assignments in earlier than the due date if you choose.)

Michelle, part of the reason to NOT public school is to not immerse her in the peer-pressure pit of following so-called streetwise ways. She is very much aware of the games and tricks, and is a very mature thinker, who consistently scores in the top 10% nationwide in most subjects.
'nuff bragging. BTW, she was in public school until the 6th grade.
   Thanks for your reply!

Ok Teacher - am present - does half an assignment count?

WAR + MORE WAR = SUFFERING

DIALOGUE + NEGOTIATION = WAR

SUFFERING + WAR = ANIMOSITY

ANIMOSITY = MISTRUST

MISTRUST NEGATES DEMOCRACY

nice write - need a lesson or two myself xxoo

OK, Teach.. I sucked in school (which is why I am a musician  lol) but here goes...

Substance=style (although not always good)
Life=Awe

War and Dialogue are actually interconnected. Without the latter, the former usually occurs, and even with the latter, the former still often occurs.

More war = Peace. End of subject. No one likes the concept (not even the Marines and others that are over there doing it, not even the leadership), however, we had war, and still the hostilities occurred. With More War, and the end of the originator of the hostilities, it is possible that Peace shall reign... until war shows up elsewhere.

War+More War= too much lost innocence
Dialogue+Negotiation= WWII

There are my answers (as unpopular as they are going to be). I hope the teacher will keep in mind the Fresh, shiny new apple I slipped on her desk.

Thank you for the cyber apple.
All thoughtful answers from the heart receive a passing score, even when incorrect.

The real question is: Are the answers incorrect, or just another version of reality... if there is such a thing?

hey kaile, thanks for the visit

Ringo, style doesn't equal substance

More war cannot end in peace.

Perhaps a different perspective rather than a different reality?
But then again, it's always the POV and not REALITY that conditions our responses and reactions to danger, threats and violence.

Back to the basics of philosophy and logic. But war doesn't follow logical thinking, in my 'opinion' anyway.

Thanks for thinking and replying.
