Our noble child
young man of twenty two
dressed in sandy khaki
with a job to do

Standing tall with pride
stepping up to the test
becoming a hero
America’s best

Our noble child
young man of twenty two
placard praying
with a mission to do

Standing tall with conviction
stepping up to the test
becoming a hero
America’s best

My noble child
soldier at war
my noble child
protesting the war

My noble child
true to his heart
living in strife
worlds apart

Our noble children
learning love’s way
each in their own voice
hold patriot’s sway

Judge not my noble child
for when this conflict ends
we again will be united
in this family of friends.

I've been watching TV. It seems that tensions are running high between the two groups - those opposed to the war and those who support our troups. I would like to think both factions are noble in their beliefs and doing what they feel in their heart is right. I would hope that when this is all over, there would be no hard feelings....I do not have a child in either group but oddly, my daughter is the one who would go to war if she could and my son is the pacifist who would be doing the protests.

"stepping up to the test,
becoming a hero"

This poem is so fair and well written, reflecting love and respect for both sides.

I wish I had the love in my heart for both sides that this poem reflects, but I do not, for more than one reason.

May they be ~Heros~ when/if they make it home.....I thank each and every one laying down their lives for me.
Hugs, Pat

My "halo's" off to you for this one! Simply superb and emotionally stirring. This is a VERY special--and classic!--piece of writing! It should be read across the world in newspapers, magazines...----poetry books!
