As alarms sound and hearts race in your rising,
you have fears.   I rise and I fear with you.
The vigil accepted,  the watch set.   The
guard posted against all threats.

Your sword I polish,  your shield I wield.
Your burden I lighten,  your lives I
cherish as though my own.

You,  the courageous,  the mighty,
the young lives of youth.
The worn yet wise,  the gallant and brave.

I stand,  as you stand,  proudly as I have
for over five decades of my own freedom.

Freedom which has come at great cost,
Considerable sacrifice for all through two and
a half centuries.  For those who battle,
for those who weep behind.
For those who have stood against the foe
and felt the sting of  their own tears.
And those,  like myself,  now too old to carry
The sword of liberty and freedom.

I gave this country my youth,  my soul.  I
left behind a tearful family that I might preserve
peace for them and a proud nation.
I have cried and still cry those tears,
just as they who succeed me have and
will.

I am  honored to have served, to have been
one of you who serve with dedication and
courage.

I pray for each of you who stand and
feel the breeze in battle.   Those who squint into
the blazing sun at day’s break.
I pray for us all.

You are in my thoughts,  and therein
you shall remain till my last breath ebbs
and my bones are consecrated to
the hallowed ground of a great nation
beneath a flag of red,  white and blue.

I salute you...

May I stand beside you
in your salute,
with my right hand
over my heart?
Thank you...

and as we stand may we be united.
I'm standing beside you..standing beside those I know, beside those I don't know, beside those many who will never be named as great.. standing and praying.
wonderful and powerful words you have written.
God bless you, and God bless them.

Always, Alyssa

(big hugggssssssss) Oh Barry, I too salute you and all thr wonderful men and women who serve this country, sweet friend, while I am completely and hopelessly now against this entire war and also against Bush, who won't even take part in a war he wants, I do support the troops and pray they all return safely! (wipes tears) That is all I want, our men to be safe and the innocent too, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Barry, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

I believe I am speechless (for once). This is the most amazingly beautiful thing... pardon me, I seem to have a large lump in my throat.

(May I keep a copy of this?)

This is just awesome, as I sit and watch the tv in the corner, waiting for it to start.I can do nothing but be proud, and pray for them. This write said exactly how I feel, and far better than I could have said it.

And I salute YOU, Magnus.
What does one say to
show their deep appreciation
for dedicating yourself to
preserving our freedoms?

Thank you! ... as paltry
as it may sound ... but
nonetheless heartfelt.

Beautiful poem.

When you think you have heard it all,
listen more closely.

A very fine piece, Barry, truly! I did not and do not want war, but I support and pray for our troops as well as the innocent victims that undoubtedly stand between the "gun" and the target.

I pray for our world, too, because the fallout, from the conflict, could be long and far-reaching. I pray for common sense to be found by those who resist a futile resistence.

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.
