I'm heavily burdened
with the weight of wet snow.
My old branches droop,
there's only one place to go,
and that is
down,
down,
down
with a crash
to the pavement below.

I've stood here proudly
for fifty plus years they say,
but I'm threatened with death
by this fierce blizzard today.
My limbs are now laden
with more than I can bear...
it's not over yet,
for more snow is out there
just waiting to bury me alive.

Maybe it's my time
to give up my sacred ground?
Perhaps let younger seedlings
spring forth from this mound?
But I'll not weep when I'm down
for I've lived a great life
and have always stood firm
through all manner of strife.
So if you hear me moan and creak
do not shed a tear,
nor think I was weak.
I've been prosperous and lucky,
and have left my seedling here
to carry on in good cheer,
and hopefully shelter
someone or something
on planet earth.

A couple days back it was blowin 50 and pretty much a whiteout here for a day and night.Fortunatly the hemloc have the ability to weep and shed there load but not true of the older hardwoods.Needless to say theres a little extra sunshine reaching previously shaded areas today.Enjoyed your perspective on natures cycle.

Hmmm
I like the heart that leaks from your pen. Not so much, the tears.

Peace to you...and yours

Hi Kacy
I hate to see an old tree give way to the
pressures of life. But, sometimes it becomes
more than they can take....just like humans.
It's good when they have left "seedlings"
to take up where they've left off.

Heart Hugs,
Ethel

Ahhh .... go and hug him! This is so touchingly beautiful. And it reminds me of some Pine trees which fell under the heavy burden of wet snow in my street (they have short roots and are not used to snow of course!) Indeed I heard them moan ... it was heartwrenching!

Thanks to each of you. I haven't been at the board much this week, as I've worked 86 hours since Sunday night due to a blizzard here in Denver.
Thank you so much for taking time to read and reply.
