Saluting with misty eyes

0 posted 2003-03-17 07:58 PM

The trumpet is sounding
America is again calling her young to die
Diplomacy actions not words
Sins real sins imagined sins not forgiven
No peace is possible there or at home
They throw sand you throw barbs
They sting with the weight of their venom
Vietnam No More cry you
Pray For Us cry we
To win the battle and lose the war
Is your fault and not theirs
You shout  you sit  you curse their very lives
Yet it is pity and not ire I feel
You have obviously forgotten who it was put you there
You cry Freedom yet you know not the word
For as you self-riteously proclaim
You earned it not nor the right
Freedom is given yet somehow not earned
By those men who stand and fight
***************************************************

There is a saying around the military that states that for those who have fought Freedom has a flavor the protected shall never know. Enjoy your freedom to speak, yet remember who it was that truly gave it to you.

Great job on this poem.  It draws the reader to action and clearly expresses an opinion.  So true.  Great job. :^)  Thank you.

(big hugggssssssss) I think Bush and Blair have no clue what that word means, or "safety" either in that matter! (sad sigh) When will we ever learn from our history is what I want to know, our constitution and law have totally been blurred like a Salvador Dali mural, my prayers are with the peacemakers, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Ringo, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Excellent writing, ringo! You are so right that people expect freedom as their birthright without giving thought to those who provided it...and may have to in the future. My head is still reeling from all of those wonderful Welcome Back from Vietnam parades everyone threw in our honor.

Yes! I have never served, but deeply respect those in our country who at risk for thier lives, fight for mine.
