A Futile Masquerade

How many times
must war masquerade
as a seeking for peace?

How many times
will the killing
pretend to save lives?

How many times
will the mongers
turn their eyes as if blind?

War is futile
war is heinous
war is nothing but a crime!

It’s only pretense
minus common sense
as it shreds human lives.

We proclaim
all equality
with anti-discriminatory games.

Then we fire up
our differences
in a “cleansing of the mind.”

Inflaming hatred
with a rage
to accomplish warring deeds.

All in the name,
a fabrication,
of meeting human need.

Thanks, Bob, yes it is.

I have edited the final stanza, the word realization just didn't say what I wanted.

So glad you are back here and that you came in to have a look, besides taking time to reply.

Vas,

Peace on earth would/will be lovely, in God's own time.

Sadly, some minds cannot be cleansed.
Some evilness doesn't go away, no matter diplomatic pleas.

War is horrible, yet where would the world be RIGHT NOW  without ~ALL~ the past wars, especially the United States of America as we know it.

Scares me to even consider the answer to that!

If you believe Saddam created all the biological weapons he did and has, just to sit on them....well, perhaps you might reconsider what his long-term intentions were...to use and/or to sell to countries who hate the United States of America...the hatred is there, and I don't care how it got there, it is there!

Thought provoking poem, written well.

Hugs, Pat

I second Pat's sentiments.

VAS, a real 'thinker' of a poem.
Thanks for posting!

I feel we are damned if we do go to war and damned if we don't. So then we might as well opt for don't!

Warm hugs,

the poets against war movement seems to reflect what you are saying here, you wrote it well.
