Her hands embraced a ruby bloom;
the blood she licked away was sweet.
A thistle replaces her missing arm,
its bloom prolonged by rusty awning drops
collected during thunderstorms.

She used to have platinum blonde locks
styled to frame her high cheek bones
until bicycle tires pressed them
into red clay.
Auburn suits her skin tone, now
faded by weather to a pasty wool.

"Maa Maa" she chanted
when I flexed her joints,
louder when I twisted her knees.
I wanted her to dance,
not caring about her blinking protests.
She was my princess and could
do anything I imagined.

She was my confidant
back when she had a good head
and pink, molded lips retained
my juvenile fantasies of the boy next door
who toted acne cream in his hip pocket.

She leans against the corner
of the old detached garage;
plastic eyes, one wide open,
the other dull behind a gapped fringe
of curled lash.

I can see her though.

I've liked the two poems I've read of yours.  Content is thought provoking and the style is different and enjoyable.

Chanson, I read this through three times and each time more of what was written between the words and lines came shining through.

An excellent choice for the book, to be read over and over again. I love your poetry, Lady.

Hugs,
Ethel

Ratleader and Jason...I am hardpressed to come up with any ultra witty ways to say thank you. I hate when that happens! *knocking my head on the desk*

So...at the risk of sounding a complete repetitive bore....THANK YOU! From the bottom of me very full heart. You PIP friends are the best! *smile

I think you just explained why my mother put the few dolls I got into a trunk instead of letting me have them. *G*

Hiya Suthern.

I think the reason why my dolls got so much
wear and tear is because I didn't get alot of them
and I didn't have *don't touch* collections like alot
of children have today. I had one or two favorites
and played with them for hours and took them
almost everywhere I went.

Unfortunately, I was a normal irresponsible
child at times and left her outside to fend
for herself in the elements.

Whooooooooops! *L

Thanks for reading and enjoying. *s

When my first boy was three he borrowed my Betsy. I never saw her again. Sigh. The things I've lost for my children- my Betsy, my figure, my mind.
I like your poem.

selection process and your visit.

jellybeans, I am sorry if I triggered some
memories you would prefer to keep buried but
I do appreciate your visit and for enjoying
it.

Nan, don't I know it! We give our children
so much of ourselves. I gave away my mind
after the first one already. *L

So that's how you treat your friends?!? LOL
I had a few chuckles--and a few memories of my own!--One of my daughters was always cutting her dolls' hair, putting the legs on backwards, putting nail polish on the nails and lipstick on their lips. Took the dolls swimming with her. My goodness, they became garish to look at!--but they were her friends and she loved them!

Warm hugs,
Earth Angel

*hehe  ...  welllllll, I *almost always* took care of of my dolls. With two brothers,
I liked to climb trees, play tag, and
dig in the dirt too! *L I know where your
daughter is coming from. I did those same
things to my dolls.

Thanks bunches for reading, Earth Angel!

I wish I'd saved my dolls from when I was young - I had a baby doll that I loved and a bride doll that my mom made lots of clothes for...a good memory poem!

I've always remembered this unique poem from the title and the imagery.
A perfect choice to reflect you in the book.

The Sun The Moon The Stars The Sky
none of these would my love deny.
For of all the true found in the blue
its twice as much that I love you.
