before they return,

the exodus
in droves,
suitcases in hand,
packed lives transplanted,
for a 2 month respite,

desperate to breath
the ocean calm,
and bask in some rays
of the golden sun,

to leave behind
the bull and the bear,
the culture on concrete,
the alphabet of names
on NYC subway trains,

paxil and prozac,
bottles lining shelves,
of breakfast inns,
up and down
the glorious coast
of king bruce,

before they come
and barge right in,
to sit themselves
on my blessed sand,

these are those remaining few,
of dwindling days,
of winter chill,
and still,
before the summer song,

when winter blues begin to thaw,

when sunshine shimmers
along silky sand,

uinterrupted,
i can still run through,

print my name,
run wild and free,
unhindered by their
human fense around me,

the time i can sit
and take it all in,
to lose myself
in this ocean view,

and revel in my love,
of sweet solitute

Wow, did you purposely not click the book submission button, for this is simply splendid. I would vote for it without hesitation. It's a wonderful write.

Ah for the joy of Labor Day, when we start to get our beaches back for a few precious months.....

I understood this one.
For me, sweet solitude always came about two weeks after the holidays.
Cool ocean breezes felt today, thanks Michelle!

Michele,

This makes me miss the beach; Though it wasn't an ocean, seemed like it.
And, I remember the surge of city folks, coming just for a day of sun, ruining my peace and only place for solitude....

Enjoyed this greatly.

Hugs, Pat

Michele - as always - getting me here with this one:

desperate to breath
the ocean calm,
and bask in some rays
of the golden sun,

what a nice thought for today - it is 60 degrees here and St Paddys Day - loved this one - xxoo

Michele, I totally relate to this one. Around here we go to the beaches at night a lot(from where a lot of my poems come from) because most are so crowded during the daytime. Except for the rich people who have their private beach front mansions, there isn't much privacy.

Hugs,
Ethel

Michele - nice, very nice. Solitude, searched for it for years and then perhaps it hit me right upside the head when I wasn't looking...

You are very welcome to have the snowbirds back. I have endured them for 5 months now and its going to be your turn. As always I revel in your creativity. And I finally found the solitude of the sandy beach. With the thunderstorm over my shoulder and the pounding surf, I found peace within myself. I can always lube up my thoughts now, if thats ok.
