I had originally written this poem in the present tense, but since Chad's disappearance, along with 5 other boys on Lake Ontario, I rewrote it in the past tense. He has joined his sister Kelly and all the other angels in heaven. They were my sister's children and the loss of them will always leave empty spaces in our hearts. God bless you Chad and Kelly. We love you and you are both in our thoughts always...

~*~

My nephew was a boy of ten,
Of the crop, he was the cream,
But his claim to fame,
Was his baseball game,
For he played the All-Star team!

He looked so proud in his uniform
As he grinned from ear to ear,
He did his best
And he beat the rest
As "Best Player of the Year"!

His hope and aspiration
Was to play pro-ball some day,
So he gave his all,
When he played baseball
As he dreamed of the great Blue Jays!

~*~

God bless you Chad. May you enjoy the beauty, peace, and the Light of heaven with your sister Kelly and all the other angels.

Love,
Aunt Linda ~ your "Second Mom"
xo xo xo ...

I remember this one. The impact on me this time is just as great. Chad and Kelly, and all the others who left too soon.

Wish I had better words then simple condolences, words that could take away the pain and void left there by this loss, but i don't, I can only say that I felt the ache through your writing but I also felt your love for him and that is something beautiful out of something as tragic as this. hugs?

You are all so wonderful to have written such warm and understanding replies. I appreciate your support.
Chad still visits us from time to time and works his little miracles. One of his shenanigans happened here at Pip!
Around his birthday I happened to be surfing the Internet and I saw a flurry of activity out of the corner of my eye. "My PIP Poetry" folder in my Favorites File popped open and when I looked back to the screen , the original posting of "Blue Jay in the Making" was opened!
Another incident occurred on Christmas day. The whole family was at my parent's home and we were having photos of us all taken. We were all lamenting that Chad and Kelly weren't with us in flesh but we knew that they were with us in spirit. After the pictures were all taken, someone turned on the TV and there was Chad waving at all of us from the television screen! It turned out that the documentary on the lost boys was being aired again and the television was turned on exactly when a clip of a home video of Chad was being played!!!
Another incident occured the day after the "For Sale" sign went up on our house. A passer-by happened to see the sign and asked to look through our house and they bought it and asked for Chad's birthday as the closing date--which was nearly 6 months away!
The list goes on...and on...and on...

Our body may die, but our spirit never does. There truly is life after death!
God bless you all! I found comfort in sharing this family tragedy with you and in reading your kind words. Thank you so very much.

Warm hugs,
Linda

What a fun poem for Chad. I'm sure he loved it, as he has seen it one way or another. And I enjoyed reading the stories about him, Linda. He is very happy somewhere and he is still with you. Very nice work here. Love, Elizabeth

Elizabeth ~

Oh, yes! He had loved the original poem in the present tense! I had framed it for him and he hung it on his bedroom wall. He said it meant even more because it was from me. He always referred to me as his "Second Mom"--which indeed, I was.

He was such a gifted athlete. He came in second place, for his age group in Tae Kwon Do, at the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto, after only two months of lessons!
He also was the top athlete of his highschool
and was a star baseball player--and I went to nearly every game and practice!

There has been no closure. His body, and those of the other 5 boys, have never been found and Lake Ontario is a very deep and cold lake.

Thank you for your thoughtful reply!

Warm hugs,
Linda

Sunshine ~

We get bombarded daily with tragic stories on the news and for self-preservation we try to be as detached from it as possible--mind  you, I have a very difficult time in doing that! Having experienced the seeminly endless bombardment of our own tragic story in the media, the pain of the families of other such tragic losses is now all the more real to me.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and for your empathy.

Linda, I am so glad to have found this beautiful tribute and to be able to respond to you. I am dreadfully sorry about your nephew, Chad and also his sister, Kelly. I can't even imagine the pain of losing one child, never mind two. It must be a feeling of such emptiness and sorrow that never goes away.

My heart connects with yours today and I am holding you.

Hugs and prayers, Marti
