We come from the light:
The light that is divine,
The light of pure love
That is one and complete.

We have left the light
To learn and experience
All that is and was
And is still to be.

To be little selves,
Alone for a while,
Savoring and fearing
Our independence.

To know small senses,
Sight and sound and touch,
The taste of chocolate,
The scent of jasmine.

To love as man and woman
As mother and child
As citizen and friend
As teacher and disciple.

We know tears and laughter,
The pain of jealousy,
Bitterness of betrayal,
The balm of forgiveness.

We learn the price of anger,
The cost of vanity,
Of too much selfishness
Or too little thought of self.

We remember faintly
Being one of a whole
And come to fear the dark
And its isolation.

Tiny in mountain's shadow,
Awed in forest's majesty,
Measuring our bodies
Against earth and sky and sea,

Against the press of the crowd
That carries us along
Unwilling or unwitting,
We know terror and despair.

Measuring our spirits,
Segments of infinity,
We stand, tall and divine
Under the stars of heaven.

We are one, we are light.
We choose to wander awhile
In this dream of reality
And concrete illusion.

When we have had our fill,
Taken and given all we can,
We will return triumphant
Until desire draws us back

Your words spoke volumes.  They were so very powerful and so well written.  I'll look forward to reading more of your fine words.

Take care.....Sue

I like to think that we don't leave the light to wander as much as we venture off with a piece of the light, to shine in any dark little crevices we find. Either way, wonderful first (or close to first) poem! And welcome to PIPTalks!
