Some days I am homeless in my heart
seeking the comfort I've known
in this bed that I've made
without blankets to keep me warm.

Tossing and turning my thoughts over
trying to make sense of them
so that I can forget and move on
never to return again.

Other days it feels that I'm immune to the sting
of salt water in my wounds that I bleed privately.
Who could imagine or come that close
to the raw nerve endings that cause such pain
and greet me with tears on those days.

Filled with the baggage that I keep folded
and zipped inside a hidden compartment
that even I don't want to get into
because I remember all too well
what lies neatly inside.

Souvenirs from a summer vacation
that I should have tossed back
a quick trip to paradise, in retrospect
one that I'm still paying for.
Yet how sweet it is to remember when
you were my panoramic ocean view
and all that I wished to see.

Some days I can almost taste the forbidden fruit
like a blended daiquiri, double shots to top it off
smooth and intoxicating
leaving an after taste that I refuse to make me bitter
and spoil your memory.
For you were my anchor as well as my buoy
my safe harbor on a distant shore
the wayward wind that billowed in my sails.

Before I took on the blue
and succumbed beneath a full moon
invariably losing myself
somewhere in between those stolen moments
that come to haunt me when I least expect them to.

Only now do I realize how close I was
and how far I have come
knowing that I can't afford to go back
and lose myself all over again.

It was a pleasure cruise that cost me dearly
you were my passageway
through the twilight turned around

and then you lost me.

(big hugggssssssss) Oh Lori, sometimes I too fear losing myself in a moment because I'm insecure of how far the infatuation will take me in the long run, and I can relate to these tears too of the heartaches it causes! (sad sigh) I send angel hugs your way, sweet friend, here's wishing your journey from here to be all clear sailing, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Lori, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Love this Lori!
The title grabbed me and pulled me in...
there was a song many years ago with that title..(not tellin' how many years ago)
now I'll be walking around all day humming it.
great punch on the ending...oh yes..love the way you write!

Lori,

Though sad, this is very insightful.
And, now I'll be humming that tune the rest of the evening, too.

Thank you for sharing this with us.

Sorry about the pity party folks...
Geeeez~~~~~
I'm all better now.

A wayward wind is a restless wind,
a restless wind that yearns to wander.

It never occured to me, but you gotta love that song!

Thank you everyone for the kindness that you've shown.

Sandpiper~  It seems to happen just when you think you're going to make it,  then you realize you're not any closer than where you started from.

Thank you Ms~
