There are castles never forgotten,
wooden baked brown giants,
memories rooted in
a child who no longer plays.
It is so hot in the park.
The sun shines in my eyes
and I hold hands with the past.
Let’s never grow up,
I want to stay in the park with you Daddy,
provider, protector, universe,
who towers above us and
we are innocent still.

My feet are in the earth, hidden
in gravel and dust and caked
between my toes.
I want to play with you, Little Brother,
baby, pupil, admirer,
who learns from me
and seeks solace in my shadow.

Fingers in the air, dreams in the wind,
I inhale my promises
smelling of sweat and violets
and tasting like Mama,
conscience, comfort, spirit,
who will let me cry and cry and
smooth my hair until I sleep.

My head thrown back and eyes closed,
I dance to the melody of flesh and blood.
I reach high and sing to heaven
in a harmony voice with Big Sister,
idol, example, keeper of secrets.
We whisper long into the night
of lovers and heart aches
and unite in lessons learned.

The castles are my fortress,
strong towers bleached by the sun.
Burning regrets and missed moments
are protected within walls that never crumble
and stay with me as I climb them.
I crawl inside and look upon my loves:
My protector, my pupil, my spirit, my idol.
They remain in the castles waiting for me.

I will place my hands against the wood,
learn the shape of my life and hold onto it.
Until my veins carry sawdust,
I will never forget.

"Glory remains unaware of my neglected dwelling where alone
I sing my tearful song which has charms only for me."
