Craziness

I heard the call of need and entered into
the craziness that comes when marriages fall apart,
try to glue themselves together and after one or two times
of forgiveness, they just can't seam themselves anymore.

Sometimes I wonder why it is me they call, me
who can't hold her own together, although
I knew when to quit.

A crying child, pained whether real or in her mind,
trying to gather all the attention sibling rivalry can afford.
Mother tired of hearing the cries from elsewhere,
when inside she is crying the loudest, trying the hardest,
wanting to fall apart herself, but can't.

Blame, guilt, promises, demands, threats,
all to try and win her back, when
there is nothing to try for anymore.

I organized her thoughts for her next meeting.
But how can you deal with a Mother's death,
two sick children crying for attention,
an ex-husband knowing that there is someone else,
who can step into his shoes,
but wear them much better than he can.

I became the Mother/Friend for those few hours,
speaking forcefully and with conviction
to the children, explaining how they were
draining their mother, crying wolf too often,
missing school, and needing attention
that a working mother could not provide
at each moment they demanded.

The loud crying made the rest of us want earplugs.
I felt like I,too would go crazy and explained to my friend,
"You are the one who needs to be in control.
Tell your children what you expect, be patient and loving
but don't settle for less. You have already done that
once and now deserve much more."

I left them to settle their emotions,
and came home where the quiet
seemed so much louder than before.

"Love is not blind - It sees more and not less, but because it sees more, it is willing to see less."

It is always saddening to see lives shattering before our eyes.  Well told!!  Ken

Thank you Connel, I appreciate your thoughts.

Thank you littlewing, I know we are all involved in a bit of craziness at some point in our lives *s

Thank you Karen. I can't believe what some have to go through to find a bit of peace and happiness and routine in their lives. Spent another day with her, trying to keep her sane, her children calm and hope I helped, but for now I am tired and emotionally worn. Some days I wonder why there are pyschologists and other DRS who do nothing but medicate and  give no guidance or solutions or choices and options...

Thank you Michele, the only problem is that I can only absorb so much and I have reached the end for now. I am tired and will take a back seat for while.

Thank you kayjay, I wish we didn't have to go through these trials and errors in order to reach happiness.

Thank you Dixie, it is I that am in awe of you and many others on here.

Ahh, Maureen, those in need always know where to turn, even when it pains inside to be the one at times. A very thought provoking write, and very well done...very gentle smile

Maureen, I personally think you are a very good friend to have. It takes a special person to want to help someone in need. You are always there, and you know the old saying.."A friend in need is a friend indeed".

But, like you said in one of your responses to the replies...sometimes we have to just ease back and take care of ourselves. If you have friends and family like I do, there is always someone in need, and they seem to always call on the ones who are the best listeners.

BTW, Lady, you sure did tell of the situation in such a way that the reader felt like they were looking through a mirror at everything. But, you seem to have a way of doing that in all your poetry....

Heart Hugs,
Ethel
