To my sister, Margaret, who continues to be an inspiration to all who know her, who throughout her battle with cancer fills every heart with the joy of living, defying nature, time and uncertainty, with laughter and the joy of each moment. As she has since childhood, she makes each day a fun experience. What a beautiful spirit she posesses, but does not recognize. She only sees the beauty in others. I wrote this poem this morning and read it to her over the phone. Her reaction?
"Oh gosh, that is beautiful. Is that what you see?"

~* VERSES TO A SISTER *~

THERE YOU ARE...
Treading on dreamlike waters
Not knowing the fathoms of depth,
But eyes smiling in elation
At the currents that rock you
In soothing possibilities

You splash, and ripples of
laughter surround you ,
spreading out to distant places,
lapping the hearts
of those whose eyes are
crystallized in admiration

You duck the taunting waves,
facing the power and will
of the ocean
and win the tug of war
with the undertows of uncertainty

You frolic in the wetness
Savoring the cold waters
As you bathe in each fresh moment

Your spirit dancing to the
rhythms of the moons,
mocking time
As the silver crescents rise slowly
over your delight

The night sky shines upon
your courage,
dusting you with star sprinkles
and glimmering moon beams

The seas bow to your stature
in waves that reach out to their limit
kissing and embracing your feet
with sea foam

And you never see your
beautiful reflection
in the ripples of joy that
emanate from the depths
of your being
But your loveliness is
hovering over the waters
And THERE YOU ARE

Avoiding a glace into the mirror
of your grace

I love you,

Elizabeth

This is so overwhelmingly beautiful. It makes me realize how much my two sisters mean to me. I think I will call them up and tell them that today.

Thanks for posting this... I'll say my prayers for your sister and for you

I know your sister is very happy that you wrote that for her.. She is probably so happy, and will be for a long time now. That was a good thing you did!

(big hugggsssssss) Oh Elizabeth, now you have me flooding in tears, you are a golden-hearted soul just as your sister is and I know she will forever be touched by your words as grace is truly in here just as it is in you and she will always be lucky to have you as her sister who dances with the rhythm of the moons and waltzes in moonbeams and walks upon oceans with her! (kiss on cheek) God Bless You, sweet friend, I send healing angel hugs to Margaret in hope her cancer will heal away and angel hugs to you for being such a wonderful friend and, most importantly, a loving soul to your loved ones, yay, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Elizabeth, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

Liz, to have you read this to me over the phone left me speechless, and the residual feelings are only just surfacing now.  To never had siblings it is hard to even comprehend the ties that bind, but to see your love of yours firstly makes me sorry I had none, and secondly love you even more than I do already.  To have a sister like you must be a wonderful gift, as I know the friendship we have is a treasure.  You speak so fondly of her, and I am sure the love you have for each other is a reflection of your Mom too.  Here's to Graceland you two!       Beautiful Liz.

Liz...This is so lovingly filled, it gave me goosebumps.  You know, the person in the poem sounded a bit like you, to me.  You are both beautiful.

I am so moved by your warm responses to this poem, Martie, I know you have the tenderness of heart that would cause goosebumps. Marge, I believe you could have written this one, for your bonds with sisters are very strong. Sharon, thank you for the photograph, so lovely and appropriate. Nan, your remarks truly warmed my heart, as did all of the lovely comments to this poem. THank you each and every one for your gracious words

This is incredibly beautiful, Elizabeth! *S* I think we all need to see ourselves through a sister's eyes... I hardly recognize myself when I hear my sister's description... but I know I want to be that person she sees. *S*

The love shines through this... and adds luster to every word. *S*
