"Who Measures Moments, Anyhow? "

Sitting idly by, avoiding the phone,
non-harassing calls, but anxiety building,
just the same.

Wanting to hear the voice that warms
and secures the feelings of knowing
who I am, with no pretense
and no excuses that fill the wires,
traveling the distance to those unknown, but wanting,
always wanting more than I have to give.

Understanding, sure, but always
making the guilt rise in me, until after the call
the tears flow, in my mind ashamed
that it is so hard to keep up at a time in my life
when living should come easy.

"Who measures, moments, anyhow?"

I do, I hold onto each and every moment of time
spent with you. I measure them in smiles,
in touches, in each second of your kiss.
I am allowed the memory of each moment
measured by your hold, arms that could make me forget
my troubles, even if only for that time shared with you.

I measure the distance of time it takes to reach you,
the distance a tear flows down my cheek, and the time it takes
your words to dry them. I measure the inability I have
to hold them back, whenever I miss being with you,
even if only to walk hand in hand.

I measure the steps taken when hiking behind you,
wondering when you will turn towards me
and take a moments rest.
I measure the pressure of your hand
on my shoulder or back,
and wish for your touch to always remain limitless.

I do. I measure the significance of you in my life,
and every moment shared and I hope
that you value me, as I do you.

Maureen, this is so beautifully worded and so very honest and true.
We should bank those treasured moments..
every moment we share with the one we love..
So when we are apart, we have those cherished memories to keep us going...make us feel warm.
