Where no tyranny is tolerable

Teddy Bear

1:
I am walking to lunch
At the school for the blind.
I wonder:
Why am I here
At the school for the blind,
When I'm already grown?

2:
Jef brings me new technology.
It's a big, fuzzy Teddy bear.
I open the Teddy bear
And there is a computer inside.
It is meant
To look like a Teddy bear
And not a computer
So it will not be stolen.
My friend forgets to take it back
So I keep it in my bag
To give it to him later.

3:
I sit at an office work station.
Before me is a Pac-mate
That I saw in waking life
The other day.
I wonder:
Why use a Braille keyboard
When a standard one will do as well?
It is so designed
So that no one else can sell it,
So a thief won't know what it is,
So that it will not be stolen.

4:
I argue with a salesman.
He insists
That the board slate he is selling
(a writing tool)
is really a computer.
He says it's so designed
To look like something else
So that it will not be stolen.
I tell him that's ridiculous.
He is using the stylus
Inputting the computer.
I say that he is crazy,
That the slate is just for writing
Braille on a sheet of paper ...
Like using a pencil to write script.
He says that, see, ...
He can make it talk.
I listen for a voice.
He makes it talk.
I say it's a trick,
That he wants to sell me
Something I don't need,
That he probably sells junk
And spams gullible people
On the Internet.
He then tells me, in exasperation,
That there is a movie
Playing down the street.
I should go see it.
As he leaves,
He tells me the title of the movie
And I immediately forget it.

5:
It is night.
I walk down the street,
Pausing at a corner.
I face in some random direction.
(I cannot hear the traffic)
and a sexy woman offers
to take me through the light.
She wants to know where am I going.
I tell her it's a movie,
That I forgot the title,
That it has to do
With Stevie Wonder and computers.
I wonder where she is going.
I can't tell her
That I don't know where I'm going,
That I know nothing of a theater.
I can't tell her that I don't know
Even where I am.
And we go on
Walking ... and walking ... and walking

I wish I knew how to embed sounds into this article
And help you better
To experience it.
