~* I Have Been In Their Flutter *~

I have been in their flutter,
and felt the warmth in their passing,
so moved by the gentleness of a stroke
on a tear-stained, cold cheek.

Bitter ice began freezing my heart
and I heard singing through my muted cries.
So softly they spoke through that coldness
warming and melting with words of love.

They have held my hand in guidance
leading me back from the ledge of life,
to the very core of understanding
and a calming sense of forgiveness.

How overwhelmed we are when
caught in their brilliance,
refusing to be extinguished
in the bowels of darkness.

They accept us as genuine, unique,
passing no judgment as they see
through to the very core of us,
into our hearts, and mend our souls.

No wings or halos adorn their heads.
There are no flowing white robes,
or auras of light that draw you near
but even still they are angels beckoning.

They're in moccasins, army boots,
dress shoes, some barefoot, rich or poor.
In turbans, babushkas, loincloths or suits,
and maybe someone you just met today.

Yes, there are the angels on earth
who will always keep the peace,
for they all dance to the same tune,
burnished in their souls through prayer,

It is called ~* The Golden Rule *~

~*~

~*~  The Golden Rule  ~*~

Do unto others
As you would have them
Do unto you

This ethic of reciprocity is found in the scriptures of nearly every religion. It is often regarded as the most concise and general principle of ethics. It is a condensation in one principle of all longer lists of ordinances such as the Decalogue.

The most valuable thing you own is a smile, wear it, and share it.

And I quote:

"Bitter ice began freezing my heart
and I heard singing through my muted cries.
So softly they spoke through that coldness
warming and melting with words of love."

that stanza were the emotions and images that lingered as I read the poem(as did the picture)....This piece...is beautiful
We are the same...yet so different....
this was a perfect choice for submission

I like the moral of this... it is indeed true that often the most overlooked angels are the ones that live on earth and operate on their own morals, of their own will.  You did a good job keeping this mysterious through most of the poem without giving away the "they" too easily.

Nice work.

Sharon, this is really a touching poem. I'm like the other Sharon, it would be good if this picture could be put in the book with the poem. It adds to it a lot.......

Dearest Sharon, Loved this, whole-heartedly agreed with it.  There will always be angels garbed in mortality.  They are the hope of Humanity.  Slow to judge, quick to rescue and all acknowledge that a smile, kind word and gentle action will eventually melt the glacier that is the human condition.

Cherish the good memories of the past and look forward to the adventure called Tomorrow. But above all... be kind to yourself today.

(tears fall down my cheeks) God Bless You, sweet friend, this so deeply touched my heart as there are so many real angels out there who struggle and strive to hang on yet they have so much strength and resilience and with their understanding of pain and compassion can reach out to so many, just like you! (big hugggssssssss) I believe the Golden Rule is the simple creed that we should bear as an anthem, to love each other and treat each other like we deserve to be treated! This is so heartfelt, sweet friend, and heartfelt poems are always a vote in my book, yay, you are  atrue angel, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Sharon, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

each stanza here was so heartfelt, and just
honest. i felt as if you really poured
youre heart out when writing this poem.
when i get a vibe like that from reading a
poem, then i know it's something beyond
just average poetry.

you've got my vote.

thanks for writing this, i enjoyed it.

There is only one thing that annoys me about you---and that is that you always undermine your talent.

This is lovely and gently, and always you remind me, that gentle words can have an impact, as well as the rage I seem to spout out. I strive for that goal.

Thanks, you POET. smile.

The depth of this poem is amazing. So Rich. I've read it several times already and each time I've read it I've gotten more insight from it. Perhaps this poem is related to what is written that some have entertained angels unaware... Not that we are unaware of having angels in our presence, but that we have entertained those of whom you write; the humble, the meek, the honest, those who abide by the golden rule, etc. etc.... who are angels in the eyes of God, but but by their nature and character have no awareness of how very precious they truly are. (Amen) I do feel, as you have written, that there are so many angels all around us dear poet friend. Angels that have no idea of their high status in Heaven though how very very much they are angels here on earth. Thank you for this beautiful and insightful poem. God bless.

How wonderful you are my friends, and Bob you nailed what I was trying to say right on the head.  These angels are truly unaware of how much they will change a person's life by just a simple touch, smile, or personal contact.  I know so many and they tend to rub off on you after a while.
