Saluting with misty eyes

0 posted 2003-03-06 11:41 PM

Daddy why must you go?
Was it something I did
Should I have done it before?
Mommy says that my Daddy is back now
But isn't that you?
He wasn't here when I was sick, Daddy,
Why can't I be with you?
But my sister gets to go with you sometimes
Daddy, please take me
When I was sick and I called
He never came, it was always you
Daddy says that he is my Daddy
Why not you?
Is it because I didn't clean my room
Or because I ran in the house?
Yes, I know I would visit him
In the summer if he felt the need
But, Daddy, I didn't need to visit you
You were always here and you never left me
Mommy says I can't call anymore
What did I do, Daddy?
OK, I'll hang up now
Mommy says I have to go
I think I'm in trouble
Daddy tells me he loves me
But Daddy, I love you.

Sorry for the downer guys, but I was already here and had to put this down.

Hi Bradly

So often it is the children who suffer and feel they are to blame in these situations.  Your words were very moving.

Take care.....Sue

This is a very touching write..and we write them best when we are "right there".  Well done.  Ken

Very, very sad poem, yet written so well.

Brad - sorry getting late on this one - Goddd - I know this - that telephone - ughhh - I often think these things to myself - how responsible we are for the life and belief system of one small child - scares me some days - it does
nicely done - xxoo

You captured the feelings very well!
Heart-wrenching and real. Worthy of a vote, certainly.
