* * * *

I once knew so many people
But so much in life has changed
As I struggle to maintain focus
It's like my mind's been rearranged

A man comes here to visit
As to why I am not sure
But I don't recognise his face
I've never seen him before

I study him very closely
And there's a flash in my mind
He seems such a gentle soul
With a face so warm and kind

These young children visit often
And they say "I love you Nan"
But I don't know who they are
Maybe they're related to that man?

In this place where I live
People shuffle here and there
Many sit alone for hours
Into space is where they stare

Happiness has no place here
So many people come and go
Please tell me who I am
Because I'd really like to know

* * * *

"Loneliness
and the feeling
of being unwanted
is the most terrible poverty."

* * * *

I wrote this for those poor souls
suffering Alzheimer's Disease.Even
though I don't know anyone close to me
who suffers from this debilitating disease
I thought I'd try and put myself in the
shoes of the sufferer to maybe get a
glimpse of what it must be like.

I am in motion
I am blue
Love is an ocean
I'm anchored in you

A very good write

For not knowing anyone who suffers with the disease and not having it yourself (no joke intended), you portrayed the confusion and loneliness quite well.

Awesome job...no voting??

(tears fall down my cheeks) Oh Sue, this is so very heartbreaking, sweet friend, it saddens me to see individuals having to cope with the loss of memory from this and how children and parents in families are also deeply saddened by what it does to them! (sad sigh) God Bless You, sweet friend, you are by far one of the most compassionate people in the world, you can feel for anyone, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Sue, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Your voice speaks for those who have lost their own...

Very moving and it helps shed light on this disease that strips the dignity away from its sufferers. God bless you for your humanity and your caring ways.

Extra warm hugs, Dear One,

Linda

A write that touched me personally. My father-in-law has serious dementia and the poor man can't remember from one moment to the next. His sister had alzheimer's for years and years before she died. It is a dreadful disease.

Thank you for writing this.  Hugs, Marti

Sue:  Such a sensitive poem and I think you've done an excellent job of writing about an alzheimer's victim's emotions.
It's such a tragic thing!

Excellent Sue!  How do you do it? -- Put yourself in circumstances, not your own, and write with such sensitivity and credibility?
Kudos!

I do know some with this horrible illness and I believe you've done justice to what I know they must go through.
It is so devistating, so heartbreaking, and you approached it with awareness and compassion, and did so amazingly.
great work.. I'd like to vote for this too.

Yes my mother -in law lived the last year of her life in a nursing home , slowly her mind declining , my son as been an occupational therapist in a old peoples nursing home for the last 8 years , he does have fun stories along with the sad ones ,but it does take a caring person to work there , although sad
you described it excellently

I think one of the worst things about this
condition is that the person doesn't even
realize that they are so removed and isolated
from their loved ones...

Never wish to be a man alone...
it could happen...

Thank you Sue...

Although my 99 yr old grandmother isn't afflicted, she does have some dementia... I figure that's OK at her age.. But she's a proud lady - and she KNOWS she forgets.  It's very frustrating for her - Thank you for this, Sue...
