The Joys of Spring
~ By Sue ~

I think about my feathered friends
The ones I had to leave back there
There will be no one at that house
To show them how much they care

The chickadees will not gather
In my yard once again this year
And they will all go hungry
This is what I now fear

If only there was a way for them
To find me where I am living now
Then maybe I could have some joy
Living here in another house

The squirrels that use to gather
On top of that old shed
I will not see them anymore
They will never again get fed

The only thing I don't miss
Are the slimy critters out on the ground
Sometimes, they were even on the road
I am glad they will no longer be around

There will be no more fishing
In that little old pond right by the house
Catching all the fish and the biggest ones, too
Because, now I live too far south

All the tulips that I planted just last year
They will all just be mowed down
After spending all of that time
Carefully putting them in the ground

There were so many joys I had in my life
That I will not have again this year
Because I had to leave them all back there
Thinking about these things, it brings a tear

It is sad to leave behind fond memories..
But Sue, you can make new ones where you are now!
There will be new feathered friends..
new flowers to plant and bloom...and new loves for you.
You'll see..hugs, Nancy

"Because I had to leave them all back there"
beautiful line of truth...and a rich source of much poetry.
