Ceviche
By: Noah Eaton
3/1/03

Rolando sits late at night at the Costa del Sol
Eats his paella, orders another mauby for the house to satisfy his soul
Placed his wishes on a wire-mesh strainer
Blanched them on a griddle so they can simmer

Sr. Bravo lies his feet on the toadstool by the Paseo
With his bandoneon in hand, the local legend of punteado
While Inés stands on the sideline, in a red dress
A red dress as vibrant as the sunrise over Santiago, I must confess

And from behind the juice bar Guillermo says…

Have you been looking for the new prima donna?
Well, my friend, she’s right here swaying in melisma
They say olives can’t spend a life in hydrolysis
Get leached, get fermented, ripen for the best of the season

So get out there and work those castanets
Join the palmeros and leave those tongs for the chef
‘Cause that sinuous smile is closer than you think
Waiting for you to leap into the drink…

Doesn’t it all taste better?
When the lemon is lying there on the rim of that half-full glass?
So get out there and join the dance…

Guillermo sits at the piano, keying Baires 72
Starts up the Valsisimo and so begins the prelude
Inés stands there shaking like a gordal tree
Rolando gently taps her shoulder, she turns to face him, singing…

Let’s strike up a Sevillana together, what do you say?
And she takes his hand and lets her heels give way
Let’s get as good as it gets and blend it on puree
Pivot those toes, adjust your heels, and let’s play…

Doesn’t it all taste better?
When the lemon is lying there on the rim of that half-full glass?
So get out there and join the dance…

Listened to Loudres muttering, I heard a proverb through his guitar,
”Tell me with whom you walk and I will tell you who you are”
And through her song, he could hear her Quejío
As he and she turned face to face, their desires tapping in zapateodo

You’ve got to get inside the temple than wait outside
Let that skirt pirouette, the poetry come out in 2/4 time
Flavor that cuisine with some lime juice
Marinate that whitefish, and the cilantros flavor shall work through

Toss the greens over, make your own vinaigrette
Ceviche is ready, life will never taste so full of flavor again
Don’t close your eyes, there’s too many colors swarming
“A bird in the hand is worth more than 100 flying”

“A bird in the hand is worth more than 100 flying”…

Doesn’t it all taste better?
When the lemon is lying there on the rim of that half-full glass?
So get out there and join the dance…
Doesn’t it all taste better?
When the lemon is lying there on the rim of that half-full glass?
So get out there and join the dance…

”Tell me with whom you walk and I will tell you who you are”

"Underneath your clothes there's an endless story..."

Shakira

Noah,

So glad I stopped in today.  Outstanding work, you have always written far beyond your years.
