And Then You Smiled

My head was bowed in deep concern
with fretful thoughts that spin and churn
And as I walked, I could not see
For troubles would not set me free

And then you smiled, as I passed by
and looked into my woeful eye
unleashing joy from deep inside
that drew a smile I could not hide

No spoken word, just gleaming eyes
that captured me like midnight skies
A stranger’s face, a sudden glee
dissolved the things that worried me

How small the gesture meant to please
An inadvertent glance to ease
a heavy heart. A little smile
that made it all become worthwhile

when I saw the title to this I smiled right away because I knew that any poetry coming from you.. especially with a title such as this(!) would bring a smile to my face.
I wasn't disappointed in the least.
Thank you

Always, Alyssa
