Was it she who set half the city on fire
or from whom other slaves would aspire
to set themselves free from colonial pasts
to live a life free at last

tradition brought slavery
to New France too
landowners collected their human dues
once that service was done...
slave man hunted on the run
then into unmarked graves he went
as quickly as his life was spent.

a tradition shared with the plantation owners down the East coast
here lay a blemish on the face of a New Canadian host
who must have argued how more tolerant he was
anddid well to conceal his infernal flaws
during a century and a half it flourished
it then yielded to pressures to be abolished
descendants never really knew where their kin was buried
descendants cartelled to the Plains of Abraham by ferry

So into the unmarked pits they went
their lives served then instantly spent
Is it about time to come to terms with an ugly past?
I mean this had happened after 200 years had elapsed!

Yes it is sad loner..and I have a colleague who played a French Canadian in the film done on this tragedy about slavery in the province from 1620 to 1760...and slaves buried in unmarked graves. civilized right?
