I’ve always done my best thinking
Staring out of a windshield
While the world went by me
At a rate slower than the thoughts
That seemed to pile in drifts
I always ended up shoveling.

I lay in Lacey’s bed
With her head on my arm
And stared out the window
While her even breathing told me
She was finally sleeping.

It wasn’t a windshield
But the panes in her window
Faced the trees that still dripped
From the late afternoon thundershower
That had shaken even the stones
With rolling gut rumbled thunder

She still hadn’t told me all
But then again I hadn’t told her
About Cooper Creek or how Iambe
Used to erase the will in me to leave
With a careless smile or even more rare
A purposeful touch

I supposed Davis to be like that for her,
And found myself with a sinking empty
That left my stomach wanting nothing
And me for some reason trembling
Like I had  fever if I thought too long
About it all.

No white lines here in this room
To show me the center
I shifted just a bit so I could face her
Lying there asleep,
Then eased my arm out from under her head
And got up quietly.

The bottle of scary smooth was still
Sitting on the kitchen table
So I found a glass, a couple of ice cubes
And poured myself one.

I walked back into the bedroom
And picked her gown off the floor
Held it to my face and inhaled
The essence of her,
Before I draped it across the back
Of an old chair and sat down
Where I could watch her sleep.

I must have drifted off
Because when I opened my eyes
The glass was on the floor empty
Except for the melted water from ice
And Lacey was sitting cross legged
On the bed watching me

Holding my shirt

I think it was the sadness in her eyes
That caused my heart to wonder
If beating was a good thing
Or if stopping would make it easier
If she said good-bye

(big hugggssssss) Oh Ron, I too felt the twist in this and it too had me worried that once again concern is coming between them! (sigh) This is wonderful, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Ron, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Capt. Ron, I just don't know what to say. This is getting so  REAL Capt.
I hate it when I'm not feeling like getting on the computer very much, and think that I might miss something knew. It's kind of like a soap opera, only more real.

I said all that to say that I love it, Ron...LOL

Hugs,
Ethel

(can I ask you something without sounding too dumb?? What kind of booze is "scary smooth"?? I used to drink Rum and a few others that I won't go into, but I've never heard of "scary smooth". Am I stupid or what?
