              In July
Do you see in July where we walked, you and I
Down a hot dusty road as we wished that we rode?
In a small Midwest town where each day wore a gown
Of the leaves or the snow or the grass I would mow

Do you hear in July where we talked, you and I
On a soft grassy bank where my fishing boat sank?
And I yelled and I cursed thinking this was the worst
And you laughed at my fit while I tugged hard at it.

Do you hear in July how we fought, you and I
over something as silly as which farm was hilly?
Or the colors we’d paint on our home that now ain’t
Then we’d wonder at play, if we’d marry some day

Do you think in July how we kissed you and I
How our lips met in joy, as you tried to be coy,
In the soft summer light as day faded to night,
And the crickets in choir gave us feelings so dire

Do you find in July that we’re not you and I?
And the dreams that we fussed have gone down into rust
Do you live?  Are you well?  I’m just some place in hell.
Do you find in July that we’re not you and I?
               Do you...please?    I do…

Ken, this is absolutely beautiful!
I enjoyed this so much and believe it should have been a book submission!
Wonderful thoughts and feelings from this one.

KJ...

ballad poetry is your forte...
you have an inner beat
heard by the heart...

and this, Sir...

is a good thing.

Time can do so much,
and yet there is always something there to remind us.

This made my eyes water...and my heart feel.

A serenade is a symphony to me
Thank you "blue" for your sweet harmony.  KJ
