Moved from a shack to a barn

I’ve walked enough miles
Alone in the forest
To get a feel
For the patterns and rhythms
That compel woodland denizens

How they skirt the edges
Of gully and treeline
Between food and safe haven

I’ve strolled enough riverbank
To enable me to read
The currents and eddys
Where the Piscean dwells

How they rest in the cover
Of an undercut bank
Or ambush, from shadow
Their unwary prey

I’ve passed enough time
In the company of strangers
To gauge their expression
And inflection of voice

To winnow kernels of truth
From chaff of deceit

But find lately

That the elegant trout
Is merely a trick of light
Upon rock and clear water

That the noble stag
Is just a gust of the wind
Moving in the underbrush

And that love
Has always been
Only a rumor

Here I am, about to sign out, and on my way past the counter I pick up a wranxbar for dessert! A tidy way to end the session.

Nice piece of work this, as is all your stuff.

I'd have to agree with it being a rumour as I've been unable to substantiate it. But I hope for your sake you find it to be true, through reading your words and our brief chats you seem to nice to not have that kind of peace.

I'm glad I didn't try to go to sleep early tonight, or I might have missed this treasure. You've learned many secrets, and  have such a wonderful survivalist approach to the world around you. Breathe in as deeply as you can, let it always seep deep into your pores, and keep that pen and paper handy. I love the way you share.
Dang if you aren't one of my favorites.

Such rumors as you describe tend to be hard indeed to prove or disprove...

As usual... and excellent piece..

I enjoyed.

A rumor? That must be why I haven't encountered it lately...

I really enjoyed this.

Enjoyed greatly, Pat

Ed, you truly are an observer of life who most definately has the soul of a poet---and the pen of one as well.

Warm hugs this fine winter morning,
Linda

P.S. I like  your pic but I would love to be able to see your eyes. I am sure I would be able to see a lot going on behind them!

That was the best fishing poem I ever read!     I did get into that part...

I know what you mean though, truly a matter of perspective.  Changeable.

I have one question for you, Ed.

Why haven't you submitted this for the book?

These leading to this great ending..really good poetry.  (I've tried to catch that trout many times, and love...it's the truth.)

My goodness...you.

I could go off on nature bases religion and Earth as Goddess and..but WAIT...I said I wasn't gonna do that, but this--

That the elegant trout
Is merely a trick of light
Upon rock and clear water

That the noble stag
Is just a gust of the wind
Moving in the underbrush

--the visual of the first captivated me, I kept thinking of the oriental image of a carp...but I wish I knew more about form poetry, but this is perfect haiku in essence. (the syllable thing admittedly not there, but I edited in my mind..grin)

all in all there was a feeling of wholeness here...east meets west, the masculine and feminine, as above so below--

and yep, the witch likes VERY much...

sweet! y'yeti bear...

A wonderful write, deep, ethereal, and yet, the conclusion so very sad to make.

yes, love is likely a rumor until one finds it unconditional

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.
