Now Only Silence Befalls

I used to stroll the meadow
each and every day
now I am feeling lost
empty and in disarray

Friends they used to greet
in always being there
now my heart sinks
lonely and in despair

The special place to share
with each meadowlark
now I am asking why
it suddenly went dark

The path that I once found
neath clear blue skies
now as light is fading
this meadowlark cries

I hoped forever to share
a friendship guarantee
now only silence befalls
my heart pours tearfully
