Listening to every heart

0 posted 2003-02-24 01:53 PM

When I stood outside
those chain links of LaBrea,
residued history invading my nostrils,
I wondered first

if the chain was keeping me out
or keeping them in…

and I wondered of the land rovers
who were hulking and huge,
tremendous masses of life
living

and I wondered
at their demise, and if their brains
signaled their end
as they heard their own wailing

and I wondered,
in my teen years,
if I knew what it would be like
to grow old.

I have always wondered.

Well done Karilea. I wonder how you manage to write your thoughts so easily! Chris

And I wonder..when it is time for humans to go in the tar pits, will we know it is coming?  Beautiful write, KJ....K J

PS Methinks you've a long time to wonder!

Through rubble and trouble and dark of night
The yawn of a dawn will hasten the light

Well, first of all, you're not old!
My mother once said that she still felt like she was 18 inside, though her body, being 67, said otherwise.  My father felt similarly.  As I age, I'm finding that to be so very true.

The stars will shine when I am gone,
the earth will turn on as before,
the gulls, still race along the shore,
the morning star, still kiss the dawn

Karilea--The tar pits are facinating..I remember them making me wonder too as a child.  Wondering will keep you young, don't worry.
