Days like these beg for warmer thoughts
recollection of a distant summer comes to mind
and soothes these tired bones

The summer of Beth, barefoot goddess
of Tampa Terrace, whose temple I still worship
in memories and in dreams

Of her beauty, wit, charm and subtle
grace and how she carried them all in that
offhand and bohemian way

Long gone days and summer nights
on Jason's weathered porch with drinks
in hand and Snoopy at my feet

A pantheon of hope and promise
laughing the laugh of the youth, untainted by
the weight of responsibilities

We spoke of life and love and
shared our deepest thoughts and dreams deep
into those sultry nights

Sweet intermissions of music
and song as Alvin playfully strummed
that old guitar our wild eyed minstrel

Thoughts drift ever towards Beth,
of raven hair and gleaming eyes, pools in moonlight
radiant smiles that pierce a heart

Though the words may well exist,
I have yet to discover those that properly convey
the reverance her beauty deserves

Just as I'd never found the words that
would've made her understand all I felt for her
that glorious summer

I'd always been the wild one,
the funny one, the crazy one, but in the end
I was the shy one

The words never came in time
and off you went at summer's end, to live
your dreams with someone else

Ah but thoughts of regret will never sour
the sweetness of these thoughts and memories
of the summer of Beth

There's no where else I'd rather be
than with these hallowed images of you
that warm me through and through

Can't seem to write much new so i thought I'd rewrite and edit an older one from Open #23. Much tighter but probably still needs work. Sigh what a summer..
