Lacey led me into the living room
And to the old couch set in front
Of the smoke stained stone fireplace.

“Let’s talk a minute.” I said,
“Some things you should know.”

I told her about Iambe then
And about how we had parted.
She listened a while then rose,
Paced the floor in front of me
And asked  me, “Why?”

“Why what?” I asked

“Why are you telling me this?”
she answered and squatted down
staring at the black hearth
that held no fire.

“Maybe I just needed to tell someone.”
I answered and got to my feet.

“Maybe I figured you should know.”

“Well, we all have ghosts.” She said,
“Yours seems to be good at rattling chains
and keeping you scared.”

I walked into the kitchen
Grabbed a couple of cold ones out of the 30 yr old fridge
And headed back to the living room.

“You scare me.” She said yet again
and I sat beside her wondering
what it was that scared her
and why.

“Lacey, maybe you ought to hold off
on showing me your bed.” I began.

“I can sleep on the couch tonight,
and tomorrow we’ll see what the day brings.”

She sighed and looked at me with eyes
That reminded me of the time
I had put down my horse.

Trust
Fear
Sorrow

“Hug me?” she asked.

She melted against me
Soft with a hint of heat
And I kissed her cheek.

“Goodnight, Lacey.” I said
and swatted her
as she walked away.

Somewhere close,
I heard the high-pitched scream
Of the screech owl
Protesting moonlight
And thought about the years
I’d spent protesting
Other people’s
Light.

Captain, it's because of lines like these..

"She sighed and looked at me with eyes
That reminded me of the time
I had put down my horse.

Trust
Fear
Sorrow

“Hug me?” she asked."

and these...

"Somewhere close,
I heard the high-pitched scream
Of the screech owl
Protesting moonlight
And thought about the years
I’d spent protesting
Other people’s
Light."

..that make this reader smile before she clicks on your name...

Excellent ... just the way I had imagined.

Ron, you know I love every episode...but this one was even better than most.
Seems I'm playing catch up again....

(smiles) I've got to be honest, this exact same part jumped out to me the most also, that owl screech seems rather eerie to me, let's hope they can weather the thunder together, this is powerful, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Ron, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Capt. Ron, the same part that Noah said, from the horse's eyes to where whe said "Hug Me" is what grabbed me.....
You are simply amazing, Sir....
