I Wish I Knew

My pen never tells me what song it will write
It begs to be held in wee hours of the night
And it scrolls thoughts and visions that I couldn’t contrive
Into phrases whose meaning is true and alive

I wish that I knew where the source of the stream
That quenches the curiously magical dream
But I know not the well from which image was drawn
Nor the fountain of words where the phrases were spawned

I allow my pen freedom to songs it may choose
The lightness and darkness, the cast of its hues
And I serve as a messenger tapping on keys
For a power within that no one ever sees

It’s the yearning of soul and the passion of heart
And the dreams of the mind from which verses depart
But I cannot take credit for depth of the eye
For divine inspiration’s more savvy than I

I wish I knew where I could get some
of your inspire, as well...

it always flows fresh, and beautiful,
and eternal...

I just wish I knew...
