“ I heard you yesterday talking to her, while you slept”
she said as she stared out the side window
watching pine and ok slide by in curves of green
as we headed up into the Boston’s.

Pavement had turned to gravel
So our  pace had slowed
To the tune of gravel pings
Against the underside
Of wheel wells

“ A ghost.” I said,
“that’s all she is now.”
“She used to be real to me, but not now.”

“this yours?” she asked
holding up the bullet that I had put in my shirt pocket.

“Her parting gift to me.”
I replied as I swerved to miss a pothole.

“You scare me a little.” She said.
And turned the bullet between her fingers
As if to polish off the names.

“You get your shots today, I’ll take you back.”
I said with a sense of clouds descending
On hill tops that are too cold for fog
And too dry for snow.

“We’ll see.” She mumbled

The day dawned clear
Except a few low clouds that hung
Over the deep valleys
So she framed the pictures between trunks
Of pine, leaving a limb of green in this one
A bare twig in that.

I watched her
Wondering at her intensity
And entranced by how she moved
In bend and lean of lenses

Sun was flooding us when she quit.
Her sigh as she sat down and absently began packing
Wiping each  lens with care
Betrayed the energy put into the images.

“You think you could love someone else?”
she asked me as the last tripod was folded.

“ In time, perhaps.” I answered and stowed her gear.

“Let’s go swimming.” She replied with a laugh
“and see if it washes any of the ugly off you.”

Later…
We lay naked in the sun
Neither of us looking at the other
as we let the warmth dry us
And both feeling too shy
To touch.

(sigh) They say "Love is kind, love is patient and love understands all things.", I suppose it will only take a little time until the shyness disappears and a mutual understanding can develop, I can't wait to see how it happens! (big hugggssssss) This is wonderful, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, swet Ron, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

Great!  There is a famous picture with that branch crossing. (Hmmm, maybe it is hers...laughing here.....NOT!!

That is a good scene, even the pings in wheel wells and avoiding pot holes all bring it to life so very well...and the closing scene, indeed not because of shyness, however...since both seem to have been around the block a couple times I'd think **building tension for what's to come is more likely... Ah, luscious....(my opinion)....and finally, let's hope that bullet ~fell~ out of his pocket and she hasn't progressed to checking pockets smiling....Came back to add this comment:  Hmmmm...as the talented writer you are, you must have considered **that...so now, I wonder why you choose ~SHY~ instead of  writing about ~building tension~....being the novice that I am I, I am curious. Is it just because **that is too obvious? My folders don't show colors so never know when poet responds. I'll check later in case you might have replied. I hope you don't mind me picking your brain, I learn much... thanks

Enjoying these adventures a lot.
Thanks, Pat
