~*Life Lessons~*

I don’t seem to be able to express
all of these feelings that I have inside
and there’s no way that I can ever count
the many sorrowed tears that I have cried.

I can’t tell of each battle that I’ve fought
only that I have managed to survive,
or of the times I’ve been broken hearted
but yet, I am still very much alive.

There have been many roads that I’ve traveled
and many obstacles I have climbed.
I have been held in the eye of the storm
each receded with the passing of time.

At times I have stood closely near the edge
and faced the gripping fear of falling down,
but when my eyes have finally opened
I was still standing firm on solid ground.

I have lived within a mighty fortress
of solid ice that surrounded my heart
and I’ve picked up each one of the pieces
after its been shattered and torn apart.

I have made journeys throughout the darkness
in search of finding the eternal light
and I have clung closely to my visions
so I don’t lose all that’s held in my sight.

It has been only by the grace of God
that I have been able to make it through
and I am sure that he has carried me
in times when I didn’t know what to do.

Throughout the many lessons of my life
I have gained strength, learning how to overcome
and even if I feel a little weak
I refuse to come totally undone.

If it should but happen that this vessel
crashes hard upon rough and rocky shores
with time I’ll patch up all of the damage
and I will continue sailing once more.

Kari if you were to visit my home you would see a plaque that I choose to live by.  It simply says that where love and peace and hope abide surely angels dwell inside....well I dont know about the angels part, but I do believe that these things will always abide in my home and heart.  I can only hope that I will ever be able to make another 5000 and that these wings continue to find the strength they need to lift them through the hardest of days.  Thanks lady..

Donna, I think it is life itself that has truly earned you your name, as you are indeed one very gentle spirit.  To weather storms of life seems to make us stronger, wiser, and more receptive to the feelings of others as well as ourself.  On this occasion of your milestone 5,000th post, let me tell you that I am honored to call you friend, and look forward to 5,000 more of your wonderfully inspiring poems.

Donna,
this post is so soft and mellow as so many of your poems are, but it has a core of inner strength that reflects the poet's faith. Well done! It reminds me of the song, "this little light of mine. I'm gonna let it shine. Thank you.
