I presented the article and mentioned I wasn't surprised by the results of the poll.

You didn’t know the results of the poll Denise, by your own admission you hadn’t bothered to find it – apparently you were waiting for me to find it for you and provide a link and decided to be unsurprised while you waited.

The poll speaks for itself.

Yes it does, people who want reduced taxes and less government spending match the same demographic as the population in general.

What it doesn’t say is that the folks who are active Tea Party members – who attend Tea Party meetings  and rallies – match the same demographic figures.

I was going by the USA Today article, Grinch. I assumed they were quoting accurately from their own poll, the USA Today/Gallup poll, that they cited, although I was surprised that they didn't link directly to it in the article.

You made reference that you had seen the poll and that it was inaccurate as a description of the Tea Parties, which led me to believe that you actually had found a link to the poll, which for some reason you declined to share with me. John also asked for it in another thread, but maybe you missed it: http://piptalk.com/pip/Forum6/HTML/002034-6.html#142

I think you are nit-picking with your claim that the poll is inaccurate as an indicator of the demographics of the Tea Party because it polled 'supporters' instead of those who may actually have attended a rally. And if nothing else, it still shows the demographics of supporters vs. the general population. It specifically refers to them as Tea Party Supporters, not just people who want lower taxes and less government.

I ddn’t miss it Denise, I just didn’t see how it was my responsibility to do your research for you when you, quite obviously, can’t be bothered.

And therein lies the problem. If you ask someone if they want free beer and ice-cream and then tell them that some group or other, the AFM for example, is in favour of giving you free beer and ice-cream it shouldn’t come as any surprise that they say that they support the aforementioned group in their efforts to get free beer and ice-cream. The results of such a poll don’t prove, in any way shape or form, the demographics of members of AFM, it simply explains the demographics of people who want free beer and ice-cream.

I guess that's the difference between you and me, Grinch. I don't assume the worst about someone and if you had asked me to provide a link which I said I had, I'd have gladly given it to you. You chose instead to be snarky about it. It wasn't that I couldn't be 'bothered'. My time is limited online. I took USA Today at its word on its own poll. I did look for a link to the poll in the article and couldn't find it, which I thought strange, but forgot about in the course of my work responsibilities. Then you said that you had seen the actual poll which was when I asked you if you could share it with me. When that didn't happen I spent over half an hour looking for the correct link through pages of a google search.

Again, you are the one misrepresenting the poll. They weren't asked only whether they preferred smaller government and lower taxes. They were also asked whether they were Tea Party Supporters, Opposers, or Neutral. The demographics are shown in the poll. It can't be any clearer than that.

Really?

I guess that assuming that Obama was taking over the internet, planning mass euthanasia programs and forming an American version of the Hitler youth without any evidence whatsoever were examples of you highlighting his good points.

I chose not to do your research for you Denise. When I wanted to find out more about the claim in the article I spent my own time ferreting out all the information I needed to construct an opinion. Call it snarky if you like but I wasn’t about to start searching for links all over again that you were ‘too busy’ to search for yourself.

Frankly, I don’t see why I should consider your time any more valuable than my own, if it took you 30 minutes to find the links how long do you think it’d taken me to relocate them? Or did you just assume the worst -  that I had them all saved to my favourites and was just being mean, snarky and Grinch like?

Would you like free beer and ice-cream?

Did you know that the AFM is fighting to give you free beer and ice-cream?

Based on the questions asked would you say you are a supporter of the AFM, opposed to the AFM or neutral about the AFM?

You could have done the polite thing and answered my and John's question about it, something like, "gee, I'm sorry I can't help you because I didn't save it", instead of ignoring us and then accusing me of not wanting to 'bother'.

You can believe what you want about Obama's agenda, Grinch, as can I.

You’re right Denise, I could have done that - my bad - I’ll bear it in mind next time.

Grinch, I want to apologize for saying that you were being snarky. I had no right to make that assumption and I'm sorry.
